Book Review: Total Activation: The New 5 Step Fitness Mantra

I recently had the opportunity to read the new book Total Activation—The New 5 Step Fitness Mantra, penned by author, Nitin Chhoda. Chhoda was born and raised in Mumbai, India and moved to the United States in 2002. He and his wife are both licensed physical therapists and fitness professionals in the state of New Jersey. They also own Total Activation Fitness and Physical Therapy, a company dedicated to the enhancement of the mind, body, and spirit.

The first section of the book is written in a conversation-type format between two characters named Madan Gupta and his friend Rita. Gupta portrays a young man who immigrated to the land of plenty at 23 in order to live a "richer, happier and longer life." He left his modest Indian lifestyle behind and embraced the lavish American lifestyle, finding that America did indeed have plenty to offer-plenty of food and plenty of choices. "They say, when in Rome, do as the Romans do, which is exactly what I did when I first moved to the United States," he says. "I started eating pasta, red meat, and sugars that are part of the American diet." It wasn't long before Gupta joined ranks with the majority of Americans who are overweight and unhealthy, gaining 50 pounds in 4 years.

Rita, on the other hand, is American born and an exception to the rule. She is very health conscious, working our regularly and eating a healthy diet. Throughout the book, Rita nags Gupta about his weight and they trade ideas about the reasons why there is an obesity problem in America and ways to resolve it. Their conversation allows the reader to explore some of the differences between the Indian and American lifestyles and the way each affects our health. For example, a child growing up in India is taught to eat a healthy, balanced meal regardless of taste, smell and visual appeal, whereas Americans let their taste buds dictate their food choices. Gupta also recalls that the meals in India are prepared fresh with no processed ingredients, but a large portion of the food in America is prepackaged, processed foods.

The story eventually leads to a 30-day step-by-step plan designed to slowly integrate changes in five dimensions of your life: emotional, physical, spiritual, social, and intellectual. Each day you incorporate one change in each of the five dimensions. You begin each day with meditation, which is a big part of the plan, and incorporate one change in each of the five dimensions. Nitin provides detailed instructions for each step as well as worksheets for each day.

For example, day 1 is about powerful personal change. Emotional–throughout the day, try to concentrate on the task at hand, not worrying about tomorrow or fretting the past. Physical—make it a point to walk a little more than usual by parking further away from the office or farther down in the grocery parking lot; something that you aren't accustomed to so that you burn calories. Social—look at your friends and family more closely, unraveling new ways to connect with them. Spiritual–pay more attention to your surroundings. Intellectual-begin a journal to record your thoughts and feeling.

I personally found the book very enlightening. I liked looking at the facts through the eyes of someone who has seen both sides of the coin; a healthy underweight child growing up in India who was transformed into an unhealthy overweight adult shortly after moving to America. We all know there is an obesity problem in the U.S. and it appears that nothing we have tried so far is working. I feel there is much to be learned from the Indian culture and have decided to give the 30-day plan a try. I will return at the conclusion of the program to report on my progress and I encourage you to join me in my quest. I must admit that I am looking forward to Day 20 where I can take time to smell the roses!

Top 5 Fitness Ball Exercises

In fat-burning sessions, you have several options to embrace. You can use the elliptical machines, treadmill and stepper machine for your cardio exercise. Or you can perhaps join the aerobics sessions. To do the strength and resistance training, you can either use the machines or lift dumbbells.

Although there are many exercise approaches to trim down, some are just particularly fond of using the fitness ball to give them the perfect abs, firm legs and broad shoulders. The Top 5 fitness ball exercises are:

1.Seated Wall Roll. This targets the buttocks, hamstrings and quadriceps. To do it, you can stand up and lean your back on the wall. Your feet must be apart in line with your hips. Place the fitness ball between the wall and your lower back. Start squatting to allow the ball to roll along your back until you reach the sitting position. Let your knees create a 45-degree angle as you sit and then return to the initial position.

2.Abdominal Roll. This specifically targets the abdominal muscles. Lie flat on the floor and bend your knees. Make sure your feet are also flat on the floor. Place the fitness ball on your thighs, adjacent to your knees. Then, put your hands on top of the ball. Bring your shoulder blades away from the floor and lift them up. Let the ball roll until the top of your knees and hold it for a few seconds and get back to the initial position. Repeat the routine for as many repetitions.

3.Opposite Limb Extension. This targets your hamstrings and buttocks, to include lower back. Lie down with your stomach on the fitness ball. Balance yourself with your hands and toes. Look down the floor and stretch your left arm and right leg at the same time. Hold that position for 2 to 3 seconds and get back to the original position. This time, lift your right arm and left leg. Hold it for 2 to 3 seconds before you repeat the routine for as many reps as you can.

4.Balanced Push-Ups. This aims attention on your abs, triceps and shoulders. Put your hands on top of the ball and your body must create a 45-degree angle along with the floor. Stabilize yourself on your toes’ tips. Bend toward the elbows with your body lowered away from the ball. After which, you can draw yourself back up to the initial position.

5.Fly like Superman. This targets the buttocks and back. Lie with your stomach on the ball. Create a 45-degree angle along with the floor. Stabilize yourself using the tips of your toes. Extend your arms up fronting you as if you’re like superman flying on the air. Maintain the said position for as long as you can.

These fitness ball exercises can be fun and helpful. Try it yourself and you’ll see the wonders it does.

Beijing- Murray Out of the Olympics

Andy Murray was confident about getting the gold medals in both, singles and doubles, at the Olympics; but his singles goal was over yesterday. The ranked number six of the world, was left out of the Olympics by loosing 7-6, 6-4, against the number 77 Lu-Yen Hsun, in the first round. This was an unexpected result, because after winning at Cincinnati many thought that Murray will be at the top of his confidence and form. However, his lack of performance led him into the end of his individual category participation at Beijing.

The Scot player lost break advantages in the first set to Lu-Yen Hsun, who had more precision of shots and a lead before the rain postponed the game. In the second set Murray had all the chances to win the set, but Lu-Yen Hsun was more consistent, more confident and more enthusiastic to win than Murray.

Lu improved his game more when he knew Murray’s concentration was out. The Taipei Chinese never lost his hopes, and maintained himself in a position that took Murray to complete frustration. In this way the Taipei Chinese managed to take the number six of the world out of the Olympics.

Murray’s poor selection of shots and the suffocating persistence of Lu’s game, led Andy to make a lot of mistakes. The Scottish’ aggravation appeared worst at the end of the match, because of his horrible serves and bad execution. On the other hand, Lu kept all his confidence from beginning to end and played in an incredible way. Probably, Lu’s key was that he never lost his composure or concentration.

In the United Kingdom tennis ranking, Murray is currently number one. He’s been having a better season this year, winning his fourth and fifth International Series titles: first in the 2008 Qatar ExxonMobil Open, where he beaten Stanislas Wawrinka; and later in Marseille’s tournament, defeating Mario Ancic in the final. Additionally, in his opening match at Dubai, he defeated world number one, Roger Federer; but lost during the quarterfinals. More importantly, after not having even reached a final in a Master Series event, Andy won his first ATP Master Series title at Cincinnati 2008; title that has become the best acquisition in Murray’s career until now.

However, the latest lost at Beijing was humiliating for Andy Murray, who had been though to at least obtain a bronze medal. Now the Scot player will prepare with his older brother Jamie for the doubles. The Murray brothers will play Canada's Daniel Nestor and Frederick Niemeyer on Monday 11th.

Now, the Scots are hoping to obtain a victory in doubles category and, no matter what, Andy and Jamie will do their best to obtain their dream, which is a Gold medal.

Belly Fat Exercises

Belly fat. Don't you just love to hate it?

Belly fat just sits there mocking you. It makes you buy bigger pants and bigger shirts.

Belly fat makes you feel self-conscious when at the swimming pool or beach.

Belly fat jiggles when you walk, run, laugh, or move too quickly.

Belly fat is horrible!

So what are some belly fat exercises? What can you do from an exercise standpoint to get rid of all that belly fat?

Do belly fat exercises include lots of crunches, sit-ups, leg lifts, or some fancy (cheap) gadget found on an infomercial?

Do belly fat exercises make you work your "core" for 30 minutes a day?

The answer to both of those questions are "no". Belly fat exercises do not require endless amounts of crunches, or sit-ups and you especially don't have to waste your money on some abs gadget off a TV infomercial.

Belly fat exercises entail working your whole body.

They do because you cannot spot reduce. You cannot get rid of belly fat just by doing a crunch. Even if you do 1000 crunches.

You need to work lots of muscle, which means you need to do full body abs exercises and full body workouts to really get rid of belly fat.

Some of my all-time favorite belly fat exercises include the following:

Planks

Stability Ball Jack-Knifes

Spiderman Push-ups

Renegade Rows

Wood Chops

Cross Body Chops

Mountain Climbers

Cross Body Mountain Climbers

All of those belly fat exercises work more than just your abs. Some of them work your chest, your back, your legs, low back and shoulders.

Those belly fat exercises not only help you get rid of ugly belly fat, they also make your abs/core strong, which means you will have better posture.

If you have better posture, your stomach instantly shrinks and you'll feel a heck of a lot better.

Let me throw those belly fat exercises into a quick workout for you that you can try at home.

Perform this workout as a circuit, moving from one exercise to the next with no rest. Rest for 45-60 seconds after the final exercise and repeat the circuit a couple more times.

1A) Push-up - 10 reps

1B) Wood Chops - 15 reps

1C) Stability Ball Jack Knifes - 15 reps

1D) Cross Body Chops - 10 reps each direction

You could add those belly fat exercises in that order to the beginning or end of your regular workout. It all depends on you and your preference. Some people like to do those belly fat exercises at the beginning of their workout, when they're fresh and full of energy, others like to wait till the end when they're more fatigued and can really feel their abs get worked.

It doesn't matter when you do those belly fat exercises, just do them, in addition to a full body fat burning workout and you will have less belly fat within weeks...I guarantee it.

When it comes to fragrances, there is a plethora of brands and types in the market to choose from to suit each person's mood, taste and 'most importantly- budget. For those who prefer scents that are light on the nose and on the pockets (costing just a few dollars), there are various brands of colognes easily found in grocery stores. Adult men and women on the other hand, go for perfumes. As opposed to colognes, perfumes are oil-based, giving it a longer-lasting scent. Perfumes are much pricier than colognes but they remain to have a loyal and large following.

Be it colognes or perfumes however, what really takes the cake are designer fragrance. Designer fragrance are different from the usual colognes and perfumes in terms of packaging, "quality" of scent and its advertising (usually endorsed by a famous celebrity).

Designer fragrance, despite the fact that they can be very pricey, remain popular because of the quality associated with the brand name. Top 5 Benefits of Strength Training

The benefits of strength training are powerful, and strength training needs to be a part of any fitness program.

Shoulder Strength & Flexibility: Classical Pilates Exercises

What it is:
Shoulder strength and flexibility are important in and of themselves, but it is also imperative that there be a real coordination and balance of the two in the shoulder girdle because many of the tasks we perform require a flow of mobility and brute strength that we must tap into on a seconds notice. If there is even the slightest bit of imbalance in the shoulder structure, we have a great chance to experience anything from mild discomfort and irritation to some very serious injuries.

Our Goal:
These next two classical Pilates exercises will help the body find this balance in the shoulder structure.

Here's How:
If these two exercises seem to be too difficult for your current level, it's recommended that you continue with the pre-Pilates strength and flexibility exercises from the previous two entries. Perfecting those exercises will prepare you for these, which are more difficult. As you begin attempting these more advanced Pilates exercises, take them slowly and remember the importance of the breath. Also, please pay close attention to the many tips offered in each exercise.

Exercise - Double Leg Kick
This will help to stretch the shoulder and will open the chest.

  • Lie on your belly with the side of your face resting on the mat.
  • Bend your knees with the toes pointing toward the ceiling.
  • Squeeze your legs together. The arms should be bent with the elbows pointing to each side and resting on the floor with the hands clasped as high as possible on the back.
  • In this beginning position, the pubic bones and hips should press into the mat.
  • The front of the shoulders and elbows should also touch the mat (do the best you can!)
  • At this point, you should feel the stretch in the front of the shoulders and in the area between the shoulder blades.
  • Inhale (use a sniffing inhale breath).
  • Do three small kicks by bringing the heels toward the buttocks.
  • Be sure that the pubic bone and hip bones stay anchored to the mat (do not allow the buttocks to pop toward the ceiling as you kick).
  • Exhale and extend the legs to the mat while reaching the arms toward the feet.
  • Allow the upper back to extend so that the sternum and crown of the head are pointing forward.
  • Make sure the neck stays long as the chest lifts.
  • On your next exhale, return your body to the starting position with the opposite side of the face on the mat.
  • Complete four to six sets.
  • When finished, rest in Child's Pose.

Exercise - Swan Dive Series
This exercise helps to lengthen the upper-back and to strengthen and open the shoulders.

Swan Prep

  • To get into the starting position, lie on your belly and squeeze your legs together.
  • The hands should be under the shoulders with bent elbows.
  • Inhale and pull the abdominals in as you straighten the arms.
  • The shoulders should stay away from the ears as you straighten the arms.
  • The neck should remain long with the eyes pointing forward.
  • If you experience any discomfort or pain in the lower back, separate the legs to hip width.
  • Exhale and slowly lower back into the starting position.

Beginning Swan

  • Begin with the same starting position as Swan Prep.
  • Inhale and straighten the arms
  • Exhale and glide the arms forward with the palms facing either the ceiling or each other as the body rocks forward toward the upper chest.
  • Inhale and rock back up and catch yourself with your hands.
  • The arms should be long at the top.
  • Do four to six repetitions and rest in Child's Pose.
  • Add some extra padding if the rocking causes any discomfort or pain at the pubic bone.
  • If you experience any discomfort or pain in the back, please stop the exercise immediately and sit back into a Child's Pose.

Advanced Swan

  • Begin with the same starting position as Swan Prep.
  • Inhale and straighten the arms with the chest lifting to the ceiling.
  • Release the arms forward and inhale while rocking forward toward your chest with the arms extended in front of you with the palms facing either the ceiling or each other.
  • On the next exhale, use the momentum to help as you rock back with the fingers and eyes reaching for the ceiling.
  • Keep rocking forward and back, inhaling and exhaling.
  • Do four to six Swan Dives and then sit back on your heels in Child's Pose and rest.

Hot Tips:

  • Try to maintain a still, rigid body as you rock back and forth.
  • Ideally, the legs should be glued together. This will help to create a better rocking motion. If this proves difficult, allow the legs to separate, but keep the muscles of the core, the glutes and the legs very active.
  • Please do not hoist the head forward and back. Find the lift from the chest and keep the length in the back of the neck throughout the entire exercise.

Lower Body Exercise Secrets of the Stars

There are many celebrities who are famous for their body parts and even get them insured for pricey amounts of money. For example, when you think of Jennifer Lopez or Kim Kardashian what comes to mind? Besides the fact that they are extremely talented and wealthy what do they have in common? Everyone wishes they had their behinds. The million dollar question is how do you get a nice, round attractive bottom without resorting to implants or butt pads?

There are certain exercises you can do to firm up your rear so you look better in those skinny jeans. Squats are one of the best exercises you can do for your lower body. Add hand weights for more intensity and the wider your stance – the more you’ll work those pesky inner thighs. You can also try standing on the ball of your feet or one foot at a time for more targeted inner thigh squats. Lunges are also a tried and true toning move because it works so many muscles at once. You can do them side to side, reverse, front, and walking. For optimal results, elevate back leg but be careful if you have knee problems.

Walking up hills, stairs or a stepper machine are also very effective butt, thigh and overall leg exercises. Try adding lunges to that and you will really feel the burn! Running or biking on any incline also works the lower body. Sprinting is also said to be a good way to tone the thighs and butt muscles. Lying butt bridges, hip extensions with weights behind the knees while squeezing your glutes, leg presses using abductors and adductors, leg lifts, and one legged dead lifts or cable kick backs are all awesome ways to firm your lower body.

To avoid that pear shaped body, spinning works wonders for your entire lower half– alternate 3 minutes at 70-80 RPM with 2 minutes 100-110 RPM for 30 minutes. I always found spinning classes to be too intense (couldn’t last more than 30 minutes) but if you can get through an hour long class, you are sure to see results. Hiking up mountains, depending on where you live also do the job. Genetics play a big role; if you have something to work with then these exercises will help.

Hot Tubs - are They All the Same

Are all Hot Tubs the same that is the 64 million dollar question - of course not.

Many Hot Tubs, particularly the cheap imports form the east, are constructed using the cheapest possible methods cutting the cost as opposed to constructing to a high standard of quality. Often made by unskilled workers who are unsupervised working in the harsh conditions of a slave factory.

Like wise this penny pinching cost cutting or simply trying to make a Hot Tub from the cheapest way can also apply to those who are making the largest numbers of spas in the world.

Many Hot Tub Jacuzzis are made using a fully foamed approach some times known as the "fully foamed" or "foam filling" system this is, very much, an out of date production method but is still in use by many makers as it is one of the cheapest forms of construction.

In this cheaper system, the shell of the unit is made from thinner sheets of acrylic or ABS plastic the Tub is then plumbed and piped with all the required pipes etc.

Then the cabinet that surrounds the Hot Tub Shell is injected full of expanding foam to give the weaker shell much needed support.

This is a much cheaper method of construction as it means that the manufacturer is able to use cheap foam, (instead of fibreglass), to support the shell, rather than building a shell with sufficient strength in the first place!

There are various disadvantages of this system of construction:-

1) Sprayed in polyurethane foam degrades over time, such that there is a decrease in the insulating value.

2) The settling and expansion/contraction of the foam can actually cause leaks in the plumbing.

3) Lastly and most importantly you cannot of course access any of the internal parts of the Hot Tub in the case service is required. Effectively then the most serious downside to this cheaper method of construction is that there is, more or less, total inability of serviceability during the lifetime of the spa. Not only is the plumbing but also the jet fittings are buried in to the expanded foam. This of course means that, leak detection is more or less impossible with out de-constructing the Hot Tub and removing substantial amounts of foam...

If a fully foamed spa should leak from the rear of a jet fitting then that water seepage may not become apparent until the foam has become extremely wet and soaked through.. The most modern productions methods would be to use some foam to support the pipe work but not to indiscriminately blast, the spa cabinet full of polyurethane as there is no proven benefit to this practice and it actually causes dealers and customers a severe service/access headache.

I have heard it said that some manufacturers fully foam their spas so as to keep the noise of the pipes down - must be a badly designed tub if its that bad.

This is a bit like perhaps building the electrics and heating systems in a car or in a house in to sold foam. Simply because you have been told by a sales person it will keep the noise down and in any event it will not need servicing . well its not something I would do or believe nut many hot tub manufacturers would have you believe ot to be true.

Is your heating ,plumbing and electrical systems at home, hidden in solid foam because you've been told it would never need servicing? That does not sound like a good idea to me ? Many Hot Tub Jacuzzi manufacturers would have you believe that it was! Or perhaps have the bonnet of the car stuck down with cement so you couldn't check the oil or water would that be a good idea?

A basic law of nature that applies in bodybuilding just as much as anything else in life is that growth can only occur when there is resistance. In weight training, if you stop adding weight to an exercise your weight and muscle mass gains will soon come to a halt, sooner if you are an advanced trainer.

Hair Loss Prevention: Stem Cell Research May Hold Solution

Hair loss prevention seems to be entering a new phase in development. For those who suffer from thinning hair due to pattern baldness, there is now a new glimmer of hope that someday soon by simply administering a specially engineered medication, the stem cell part of your hair follicles will spring back to life. With the current stem cell research that has been underway for the last six years at Rockefeller University, it seems that exciting possibilities are emerging for the treatment of male and female pattern baldness.

As you age the resting phase of the hair cycle gets longer and longer and for those predisposed genetically for pattern baldness, the hair follicles go into a more permanent phase of dormancy. What has been discovered is the stem cell part of the hair follicle divides infrequently, and it was believed they did so to protect themselves from unnecessary wear and tear so they could maintain their potency. However, new data from recent research indicate that stem cells may not need as much protection as once assumed now that scientist have discovered the protein responsible for slowing down stem cell division.

Those working on the research project discovered that the protein NFATc1 acts to put the brakes on stem cell division and that when a drug called cyclosporine was administered in mice, the stem cells increased their processes that cranked up the production of hair. When Cyclosporine was administered the hair growth phase was activated for those follicles that were in the resting phase.

To maintain their multi potent properties, it appeared that the stem cells during this research project hardly needed much rest. It seems from the data gathered so far that the stem cells maintained their character without degradation, which should be good news for the future of hair loss prevention.

Using genetically engineered mice these researchers found that when blocking NFATc1 production, hair radically increased and NFATc1 didn't stop the hair cycle, but rather shortened the resting phase and prompted advanced entry to the growth state.

Researchers believe that it is possible to develop a local and more specific inhibitor of NFATc1 than the drug cyclosporine A to stimulate these stem cells to promote new hair growth without the side effects of dangerous tumor formation. The test they have run so far on mice showed no signs of tumorigenesis, which is often a dangerous byproduct of triggering stem cells into action.

Elaine Fuchs, head of the Laboratory of Mammalian Cell Biology made the following comments about their findings from their stem cell research. "This is the first case where we have been able to activate the hair cycle without the accompanying signs of tumorigenesis". Fuchs also stated that if they could activate the stem cells processes without tumorigenesis developing, then they would have made a giant leap forward."

Though breakthroughs in the research laboratories offer great promise, it may take a decade or two before safe effective products will enter the market and have an impact on hair loss prevention. It's possible that the current research will relegate male and female pattern baldness as a thing of the past.

Lipodisolve Injections for the Treatment of Liposuction Irregularities

LipoDissolve, or the injection introduction of a fat-emulsifying chemical solution to treat small areas of excessive fat for cosmetic improvement, is a controversial procedure that is not FDA approved. (or even off-label as it has no approved medical uses)

Despite its regulatory status in the United States, I have found LipoDissolve in my practice to be a valuable adjunct for mild to moderate fat reductions if it is used carefully and on those patients with very small fat issues. I have not experienced to date in over 150 patients any of its potential complications as reported on the internet and other media venues. I believe that my methods of rigid patient selection and keeping the number of injections per treatment sessions limited is the basis for my very favorable patient experience. All patients do get a fair amount of swelling in the treated areas for the first week with some discomfort but they are well apprised that this will occur prior to treatment. The amount of fat reduction has met most patient's expectations which have been kept to a modest level by thorough pre-treatment counseling. One application that I have found particularly useful is in the treatment irregularities or residual fat areas AFTER liposuction surgery.

Even in the best of hands, some small percentage of liposuction patients will have irregularities in the skin over the treated areas. These areas may be made up of either depressions (too much fat removed), high spots (not enough fat removed), or some admixture of both. The decision to treat any of these residual liposuction issues should be delayed for at least 6 weeks after surgery and ideally not until 3 months after the original procedure, giving the body time to completely heal and resolve temporary irregular areas due to swelling and retained fluids such as blood. Once an irregular area is confirmed and the target is stable (meaning it will not improve with any more time and everyone is certain of that), it must then be determined what the cause (too much or little fat left) of it is. Depressed areas can only be treated by fat injections through another surgery. Elevated or too high areas represent too much fat still which can be improved by further fat removal. This is where the role of LipoDissolve can be very valuable.

The thought and expense of returning to surgery is not appealing to patient and plastic surgeon alike. Plus, to get at the area a long straight cannula from afar must be introduced which will traumatize some treated areas which look fine and has the potential of causing another 'problem' while trying to solve the current one. A spot treatment, like LipoDissolve, is ideal. It can be injected directly into the problem area, in the office, with no recovery, and at a very low cost. Most 'high spots' after liposuction are generally small and each area may only require a few injections. While it may require a few injections sessions over several months to get the desired result, the ease of LipoDissolve administration and the ability to place it exactly where the problem is makes it a better solution to those postoperative liposuction issues where too much fat is the cause.

The Importance of Back Exercises

People who workout often focuses on arms, abs, and legs but forget about the importance of a strong back. The back muscles are extremely important, used for things we do on a daily basis from lifting to sneezing. For this reason, it is imperative that you use back exercises to strength the muscles, which will help with lifting and moving, but also reduce risk of injury.

With a stronger back, every day activities will be much easier to manage from working to raising children to simply going out to enjoy life. Three major muscle groups make up the back:

Latissimus Dorsi - These muscles are found on the sides of the back, which are used for extension, rotation, and pulling arms in toward the body

Erector Spinae - Known as the lower back, this actually has three muscles, all running the entire length of the back starting at the neck and going to the buttocks. This group of muscles is used for flexibility and extension for the upper body along with rotation.

Rhomboids - These muscles are made up of minor and major muscles that go between the shoulder blades to help with rotation, retraction, and elevation of the shoulder blades, the very muscles used to maintain proper posture

For a strong back, you can do back exercises specific for this muscle group three days a week. If you are lifting very heavy weights make sure to do six to eight repititions and work out every other day in order to rest your muscles. You'll achieve both strength and endurance and decrease the risk for injury.

The key to back exercises is to do the right type of training. Typically, this would include things such as a dumbbell row, rear deltoid row, and seated row, along with reverse flies, pull downs, and back extensions. To achieve the strength wanted, it is important to do a number of different exercises specific to the back. By varying the type of back exercises being done every month, you will find that you continue to see results rather than hit plateaus.

Beginners should start out with one to two exercises that consist of two sets, each with fourteen to sixteen repetitions. For intermediate and advanced people, it is important to choose one to two different exercises, two to three sets, and then repetitions would be anywhere from eight to twelve. For back exercises, workout with the correct weight so you can complete your targeted repititions.

Here are two excellent back exercises:

1. Rows - This works on the Latissimus Dorsi while building stronger biceps. Start by tipping forward so the upper body is at a 45-degree angle. Then, pull your elbows up even with your body with the weights down at your side.

2. Reverse Flies - Sitting on a bench or ball with the back straight, hold a dumbbell in each hand. Then, pull the arms upward together so they are to upper mid-section.
