How do you recognise the signs of a cheating boyfriend or husband? Unfortunately it's a question that has been in the minds of women since the dawn of time. It will probably always be that way too. As long as women and men have relationships, there will be quite a few of them who are cheating. It's a simple but unavoidable fact of life. I know this from personal experience. A boyfriend of mine cheated on me many years ago, which was bad enough, but then my first husband also had an affair. Luckily, I eventually learned from my mistakes, and am now happily married to a wonderful guy, but for those of you not so fortunate, here are a few things to watch out for.

He's out more

One of the obvious things you'll notice is that your man is suddenly spending more time "with friends", or "working late". If you don't live with your boyfriend, you might simply find that he wants to go out with you less, and complains of being tired. Maybe there's suddenly a lot more sport on TV that he wants to watch. The trouble with affairs is that they are time consuming, especially if the other person is single, and has plenty of time that they want to spend with their lover. Your husband or boyfriend will be under pressure to spend time with the other woman, and will have to find this time from somewhere.

Over compensating

Even cheating men suffer from guilt. Studies have shown that people who have affairs usually still love their partner. If he hated you, you'd be getting dumped, not cheated on! This guilt often manifests itself in unusually frequents gifts or compliments. If your man has always given you flowers and told you he loves you, you're probably OK. If he suddenly starts doing these things after a couple of years, then be on your guard.

More telephone calls

People having affairs can't usually spend as much time together as they want to, so they have to communicate in other ways, and it's usually via the telephone. In the old days, it was more difficult, because people only had land lines. Remember the line from the old Dr Hook song - "Then somebody hangs up when you answer the phone"? However, these days everyone has a cell phone. The biggest giveaway is that a cheating boyfriend or husband will suddenly get very touchy about his mobile phone. Perhaps there was a time when he'd be happy for you to see who he got a text message from. These days, his cell phone is never out of his reach, and he almost jumps when he gets a call or a message while you're around.

This is how I caught out my first husband - I became suspicious, and managed to note down the numbers he'd been texting and calling. I then checked them out with a Reverse Phone Number Search - something he'd never heard of. This is usually a website where you pay a few dollars, and then you can use their database to find out who owns a phone number. If you're suspicious of who your partner has been calling, then you should sign up for one of these phone searches now. They cost very little, and will either confirm your suspicions, or put your mind at rest.
