Can Books Transform Your Life?

By: Kathy Porter

My resolution for the New Year: I will start a community of readers. The book we will start with? Catch! The Fishmongers Guide to Greatness, by Cyndi Crothers. This book is both a manual for team building and a testimony to the power of personal transformation to change your life. Seasoned network marketers will perk up their ears because they know that to be successful in building an internet home based business to create financial freedom, these two concepts are critical.

Powerful transfomations come from clear language and, a starting point can be words on a page. Listen: "If we are living an ordinary life, we simply accept whatever is thrown our way, and we react to it as if there is only one path. On the path to greatness...there are an infinite number of paths on which to venture. You are the only limitation in your life, and being open to new opportunities makes life exciting because opportunities are always presenting themselves!" (Catch! pg. 62)

Here's the connector that starts the transformation to create a life that is more than ordinary: "In order to create new opportunities, you must know the power of your mind. The fishmongers chose to create opportunities for themselves. They recognized that they are their own greatest advocate or limitation." (Catch! pg 64)

The power of your mind starts with energy transformed into thought that is translated into words. Choose deliberately. Before stepping outside your front door to start your day, do you hope you'll have a good day? Or, do you square your shoulders, grin, and declare: "I own this town!" Do you see the glass half-full or do you see the glass half-empty

My candle home based business is very much a business of transformation. Looking at just the mechanics of what gets done on a daily basis for my internet home-based business opportunity, might not be immediately apparent. Fostering this understanding can come from the commitment to personal growth.

I didn't understand this when I signed up with my first mlm company almost ten years ago. I honestly thought that I'd finished with personal growth - that I was "done". What else was there to learn? It wasn't until three years into this home-based business, that one of my upline took me aside and let me know that some distributors I'd recently met at a company event, thought I was a rude, dismissive brat. I literally found myself at a loss for words.

In fact, I didn't speak to anyone outside of my immediate family for two weeks after that! I was afraid to . That was a critical turning point for me. I decided that I didn't want to be that rude, thoughtless person. I decided to change.

Personal growth is rooted in changing who we are. Who we are starts with how we think about ourselves. How we think about ourselves starts with the thoughts in our own heads. The awareness that thoughts have the power to transform is where change really starts. How to tap that awareness?

Create a space where that awareness can be jostled - that space can be a small group of people who meet to discuss a book they've read. The discussion from reading that book can be a catalyst for change.

Building a community of readers who meet regularly to read life-changing books to transform their thoughts - to change. Personal development then spills over into creating team synergy in its best form. "On the path to greatness..." . What a dynamic, unifying thought to rally a team around, until the next book.
